Essential Baking Protocols

STEP 1
Preheat Toaster Oven: Always preheat toaster oven for 3-5 minutes at the lowest setting (~200°F). Use an oven thermometer on the center rack.
STEP 2
Bake on Ceramic Tile: Place sculpts on a glazed ceramic tile or parchment paper so heat diffuses evenly without scorching piece bottoms.
STEP 3
Bake for 5 Minutes: Time carefully. Small miniatures (peas, carrot sticks, dumplings) need 4-5 minutes. Thicker loaves or flower pots may need 6-8 minutes.
STEP 4
Ice Water Quench (Problem 3 Solution): While clay is still sizzling hot straight from the oven, gently place into a bowl of cold/ice water for 2-3 minutes. This shock-tempers the polymer chains to prevent post-bake breakage!

Troubleshooting Quick Check

Problem 1
Brown/Scorched White Clay: Toaster oven coils run hot! Tent sculptures under a loose aluminum foil dome to shield from direct radiant coil heat.
Problem 2
Dry Crumbly Clay: Knead in a single drop of water or liquid polymer clay. If it still flakes, the clay has cured past working age.
⚠️ Non-Food Safe Reminder: Polymer clay is a PVC plastic modeling compound. Never use kitchen cookware, plates, or utensils for clay that will later be used for human food preparation. Use a dedicated craft oven.
