Happy Sunflower in a Pot

Begin by rolling out a ball of dark brown clay for the flower head.

Flatten your brown ball directly against a sheet of coarse sandpaper to imprint a realistic honeycomb seed texture.

Roll approximately 21 small yellow cone-like teardrop shapes for the sunflower petals.

Flatten all 21 yellow cone shapes slightly with your fingers.

Flip the brown seed center so the textured side is face down, then press all 21 yellow petals evenly around the perimeter on the back.

Flip your sunflower back over—the textured seed face is now framed by bright petals!

Make the leaves: Roll two cone shapes from light green clay.

Flatten the green cones and use your craft blade to score natural leaf veins.

Roll a sturdy, thick stem from light green clay.

Shape the pot: Roll a ball of light blue clay into a cylinder, taper the base slightly, and flatten top and bottom.

Roll out a strip of light blue clay for the pot rim collar.

Wrap the blue strip around the top of the pot, trim extra clay, and smooth the seam.

Roll a small ball of dark brown clay, flatten it, and press centered into the top of the flowerpot for potting soil.

Roll two tiny white balls and flatten slightly. Roll two smaller black balls and press into the whites for eyes.

Roll a micro-thin black string, trim ends, and curve into a cheerful smile.

Very gently press the cute eyes and smile onto the sunflower center.

Assembly & Baking Secret: Press the leaves into the stem. Bake the stem+leaves, the flowerpot, and the sunflower head separately at 200°F for 5 minutes. After cooling, join with super glue for maximum strength!
